History

Perry County is named in honor of War of 1812 hero Oliver Hazard Perry. It was created in 1820 from what was originally part of Cumberland County. Perry County is located in south-central Pennsylvania, northwest of the state capital of Harrisburg. The quaint borough of New Bloomfield—home to the historic Carson Long Military Academy—is the County seat.
